Our Heritage

In 1966, the American Lutheran Church began a mission congregation to serve the rapidly growing northeastern Owatonna area. A new sanctuary at 20th Street and St. Paul Road offered a solution for the crowded and limited future of an existing Our Savior's on Rose Street.

By 1967 charter members of the newly organized mission congregation were quickly joined by additional members, prompting the construction of an office and education wing 1968.

In response to the need for a larger worship space, narthex and kitchen, a building program was developed in 1993. Design and then construction was completed for dedication of the new sanctuary on Easter Sunday, 1995. The new sanctuary has a simple beauty that supports the open hospitality of the congregation and centers worship, the Word of God and Christian sacraments.

In 1994, Our Savior's congregation began a relationship with Tri-Valley Services to provide space for the migrant school Head Start Program. This resulted in construction of two modular buildings designed to house the migrant preschool program. The congregation and migrant Head Start program share the modular buildings for their mutual benefit.
